Aïn Draham & the Kroumirie forests
Mountain town among cork-oak forests, cool even in summer
Aïn Draham lies at about 800 m in the Kroumirie mountains, 25 km inland from Tabarka. It is surrounded by some of North Africa's largest cork-oak and zeen-oak forests, and its red-roofed houses, built in the colonial period, give it an alpine look unusual for Tunisia. Summers are mild, winters are wet and snow falls in some years. Visitors come for forest walks, picnics, mountain viewpoints and roadside stalls selling wood carvings and cork crafts. The drive from Tabarka climbs through dense woodland with views back over the coast.
