Djerbahood (Erriadh)
An open-air street-art gallery in a traditional Djerban village
In the summer of 2014, the Paris-based Galerie Itinerrance invited about 150 street artists from some 30 countries to paint the walls of Erriadh, a quiet village in the centre of Djerba. The result, called Djerbahood, is more than 250 murals spread through the white lanes, from large portraits and calligraphy to abstract designs, many inspired by local life and culture. Some works have faded while others have been added since. Erriadh itself is a traditional village with whitewashed houses and small mosques, and El Ghriba synagogue is only a short walk away.
