Ksar Hadada

Ksar Hadada lies in a small village near Ghomrassen, about 25 km northwest of Tataouine. Unlike hilltop ksour, it was built on flat ground, with rows of vaulted ghorfas arranged around several courtyards. Parts of it were used in 1997 as a location for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, standing in for the slave quarters of Mos Espa where Anakin Skywalker grew up. The ksar was converted into a hotel for a time and is now partly ruined, but the courtyards remain photogenic. Ghomrassen nearby has troglodyte dwellings in the cliffs.
