Dar Cheraït Museum
Private museum of Tunisian traditions in a palatial house
Dar Cheraït is a private museum on the edge of Tozeur's tourist zone, opened in 1990 by the Cheraït family in a large building styled on a traditional palace. Its rooms recreate scenes of Tunisian life in past centuries, with costumes, jewellery, furniture, ceramics and weapons, including reconstructions of a bey's reception room, a wedding and a hammam. Around courtyards and fountains, the complex also houses a hotel, restaurants, craft shops and a separate family attraction themed on the Thousand and One Nights. It is a good visit for the hottest hours of the day.
