Nefta
Sufi oasis town around the palm-filled Corbeille ravine
Nefta, 23 km west of Tozeur and close to the Algerian border, is one of the main centres of Sufism in Tunisia, with dozens of zaouias and domed shrines. Its most striking feature is the Corbeille ("basket"), a deep natural hollow on the north side of town filled with palm trees and fed by springs, best seen from the cafés on its rim. The old quarters have the same patterned brickwork as Tozeur. Nefta also has a large palm grove, and it is the starting point for trips to Ong Jemel and the Star Wars sets in the dunes to the north.
